Infrared Therapies

Cupping at Boston Acupuncture OasisCupping is an ancient technique used in many cultures. It is a form of bodywork that rather than compressing tissue, raises it. This releases rigidity in muscles and connective tissue and provides space for increased blood, lymph, and energy circulation. It breaks up stagnation so toxins in the tissues can be released and eliminated naturally.

Cupping is particularly helpful for tight muscles and for respiratory problems. When applied during a common cold, it helps release phlegm and increase lymphatic circulation.

When used as part of an acupuncture session, cups are generally left for 5 to 15 minutes. A technique called sliding cups is one where a cup is moved along the skin over a lotion, and feels similar to massage.
